Celebrate Around the World

A Brief Historical Timeline of Celebrate Around The World

Dance Around the World – 1989 – 1994

At the 1988 C.A. World Service Conference, The WS Convention Committee’s motion, presented by Debbie B., to approve a “C.A. Dance Around the World,” to be held on an annual basis on the second Saturday in February, to support the World Service Convention was passed.

At 1994 C.A. World Conference, a motion was made “To change the theme and logo of DATW to, “Celebrate Around the World,” was passed. It was also passed, “To approve the Celebrate Around the World statement of purpose: “The purpose of Celebrate Around the World is to promote enthusiasm and unity within the fellowship of Cocaine Anonymous and financially support World Services’ effort to carry the message of recovery. Celebrate Around the World will be held on an annual basis, on the first Saturday in March, to support the World Service Convention. In the event that the World Service Convention does not utilize all the funds generated from the Celebrate Around the World, then the funds generated will be earmarked for the World Service Conference. In the event that the World Service Conference does not utilize all of those funds, the funds will be released into the World Service office operating fund.”

At the 1999 C.A. World Service Conference, Rose J. (Idaho), CATW Chairperson clarified that Celebrate Around the World no longer helps generate funds for the convention; instead to raise money to help send delegates to the World Conference.

At the 2004 World Service Conference, the Unity Committee made a motion, “To transfer the Celebrate Around the World Subcommittee from the World Service Convention Committee to the World Service Unity Committee, and to include all current procedures and formats as found in the World Service Convention Committee Guidelines.” Furthermore, “The purpose of Celebrate Around the World is to promote enthusiasm and unity within the fellowship of Cocaine Anonymous and financially support the fellowship’s effort to carry the message of recovery.
